Marrakech Nightclub Dress Code (2026): What Gets You In

The Short Version

No shorts. No flip-flops. Closed shoes. That covers ninety per cent of refusals at Marrakech club doors.

The rule is enforced in Hivernage, relaxed in Guéliz bars, and irrelevant on rooftops before sunset. And there is a second filter nobody mentions in writing: doors judge the composition of your group as much as your clothes.

What Actually Gets You Turned Away

In order of how often it happens:

1. Shorts. On men, in any season. It was 42°C at 3pm — the door does not care at 1am.
2. Flip-flops, sandals, sliders. Any open shoe.
3. Sports trainers. This one is a genuine gamble. Clean, plain white leather trainers pass at several Hivernage doors; running shoes and chunky sports models generally do not. If getting in matters to you, wear proper shoes.
4. Sportswear. Tracksuits, football shirts, gym clothes.
5. A large group of men with no reservation. Not a clothing issue, but the most common reason a well-dressed group still does not get in.

Men

The safe floor: dark trousers or smart jeans, a shirt or a good plain tee, closed leather shoes.

You do not need a jacket, and Marrakech is not a black-tie city. What the door is reading is effort — whether you look like you are going out or like you wandered over from the pool.

Linen counts as smart here. A linen shirt and linen trousers is genuinely appropriate for the climate and reads well at the door. This is the answer to the summer heat problem, not shorts.

Where people get it wrong: assuming a holiday destination in the desert means holiday clothes at night. Hivernage dresses closer to a European city than to a beach resort.

Women

The door is noticeably more relaxed, and refusals are rare.

What works: a dress, or a smart top with trousers or a skirt. Heels are common but not required — the walk between Hivernage venues is short and flat.

Worth knowing: bring something for your shoulders. Not for the club, where it does not matter, but for getting there and back. Marrakech is conservative outside the nightlife bubble, and a taxi rank at 04:00 is outside the bubble. The other practical point: the Medina is cobbled and uneven. If your evening starts on a Medina rooftop before you move to a club, thin heels will be a problem for the first hour.

It Changes by District

Hivernage — strict. Theatro, Babouchka, So Lounge, Buddha Bar, W Club, Secret Room, Leone. This is where the rules above apply as written. Leone and Secret Room sit in the top price bracket and select accordingly.

Dinner-clubs — dress for the restaurant. Epicurien, The Lotus Club and Buddha Bar start as restaurants. Smart-casual for dinner carries you through to the club hours without a second thought, which is part of why the dinner-club route is the easiest way into a Marrakech night.

Guéliz bars — relaxed. Baromètre, Kissko, Entrepotes. No door policy worth planning around. Monte Cristo tightens up as the night moves to its club floor.

Rooftops — no code before sunset. Kabana, Pointbar, Salama, Café des Épices. Come as you are. The catch is the evening after: if you go straight from a Medina terrace to a Hivernage club, you need to have dressed for the club, not the terrace.

Day clubs — swimwear. Nikki Beach runs 11:30 to 18:30 and is a pool party. Entirely different rules, and cover up when you leave.

The Filter Nobody Writes Down

Doors in Hivernage read the group before they read the outfit.

A mixed group walks in. A group of four or more men, unbooked, often does not — however well dressed. This is not stated anywhere and staff will not explain it, but it is consistent, and it is the single most common cause of a confusing refusal.

Season and Weather

Summer (June to August) is the hard case: 40°C+ during the day, and the temptation is shorts. It cools significantly at night, so linen trousers are comfortable by the time you go out.

Winter (December to February) catches people the other way. Days are sunny and mild, nights genuinely cold. Bring a jacket — you will be outside in a queue and outside again waiting for a taxi at 04:00.

The One-Line Answer

Dress as you would for a decent bar in a European city, in fabrics that suit 30°C. That gets you into anywhere in Marrakech.
