Best Rooftop Bars in Marrakech (2026): Where to Watch the Sunset

The Short Version

Marrakech rooftops split into two camps. The Medina terraces give you the view you came for — the Koutoubia, the ochre rooftops, the call to prayer at dusk. The Guéliz and Hivernage ones give you better cocktails, easier taxis and a proper bar.

Go up an hour before sunset, not at sunset. The good tables are gone by then, and most terraces do not take bookings outdoors.

Kabana — the reliable one

Kabana sits at the edge of the Medina with a direct line of sight to the Koutoubia, and it has more reviews than any rooftop on this list by a wide margin. That volume matters: a 4.4 across 5,000 people is a much safer bet than a 4.8 across thirty.

Tropical planting, a real kitchen, DJs later in the evening. It stays open to 02:00, which makes it one of the few rooftops that works as a whole evening rather than just a sunset stop.

Café des Épices — the institution

The most reviewed venue in this guide, and the oldest idea: one of the first contemporary cafés to open in the old city, on the spice square at Rahba Lakdima. Ochre walls, several levels, a front-row view of the souk going about its day.

It is a café, not a cocktail bar — no alcohol, closes at 23:00. Come for mint tea and spiced coffee in the late afternoon, then move on.

Pointbar — the best of Guéliz

The highest-rated rooftop with a serious review count, and the one locals actually use. Opens at 17:00, so it is built for the sunset slot and the hours after it rather than daytime lounging. Contemporary, comfortable, city skyline with the Atlas behind on a clear day.

Salama Skybar — the big Medina terrace

Steps from Jemaa el-Fna, heavily planted, 360 degrees over the old city. The rating is the weakest of the well-known Medina rooftops and the complaints cluster around service and value rather than the setting — the view is genuinely one of the best in the city.

Go for the terrace and the position. Manage expectations on everything else.

Kui Zin — the one with the food

Filed under rooftops, but it is really a Moroccan restaurant with a multi-level terrace. Atlas and Koutoubia views, live folk music, traditional decor, and a kitchen that people rate highly.

The right choice when you want the rooftop and dinner in one stop, in the Medina, without the tourist-menu tax.

Sky Lounge — the Hivernage view

On top of the round Nobu Hotel building, with a genuine 360-degree panorama that reaches from the Medina to the Atlas. Jacques Garcia interiors, poolside vibe, the most polished setting of the lot.

Fewer reviews and a middling score, which usually means inconsistent service rather than a bad room. Best used as a sunset drink before a night in Hivernage — the clubs are a short walk away.

La Terrasse De La Brillante — the quiet one

The highest rating in this guide, on the smallest sample. A boutique-hotel terrace near the Bahia Palace, calm, elegant, minarets and mountains in view.

Thirty-five reviews is not proof, but the setting is real and the tranquillity is the point. Worth a gamble if you want a terrace without a crowd. Check it is not a Monday.

MySky Rooftop 360 — the late Hivernage option

On top of the Hivernage Hotel & Spa. Opens at 18:00 and runs to 02:00 with DJs and shisha, so it leans later and more social than most terraces. Small review base — treat the score with caution.

Sky Bar at La Renaissance — the classic

The original Guéliz rooftop, on the historic Renaissance hotel on Rue Yougoslavie. It has the best-known 360 view in the new city and a long reputation, though the reviews suggest the room has been overtaken by newer terraces.

Go for the view and the history rather than the drinks list.

And one that is not really a rooftop

Le Trou au Mur in the Medina (4.6, 799 reviews) is a restaurant with a roof terrace rather than a rooftop bar. Closed Tuesdays. Worth knowing if you want the terrace with a serious kitchen underneath it.

Medina or Guéliz?

Choose the Medina if the view is the point. Kabana, Salama and La Terrasse all look at the Koutoubia and the old city, and that skyline is what people photograph. The trade-off: shorter hours, no alcohol at some venues, and getting there means walking through the souks.

Choose Guéliz or Hivernage if the drink is the point. Pointbar and Sky Lounge have proper bars, later hours, and put you within a taxi ride — or a walk — of where the night continues. The view is a city skyline rather than a historic one.

Most good evenings use both: a Medina terrace at sunset, then a taxi across to Hivernage for the rest.

Timing, Money, and Getting a Table

Go up an hour before sunset. This is the single most useful thing in this guide. The best-positioned tables go first, most terraces do not reserve outdoor seating, and the light is better before the sun actually drops than at the moment it does.

Sunset moves a lot. Around 18:15 in December, past 19:30 in June. Check the day's time rather than guessing.

Expect roughly 80–150 MAD for a cocktail and 40–60 MAD for a local beer at the bar-led rooftops. Cafés in the Medina are considerably cheaper.
